Discovering feeds on our catalog

I think the RSS feeds concept is a good one. Its as if you are bookmarking your favorite sites but instead of you accessing them, they send you the info. Our technologically savvy patrons will benefit from this service and those that are not will learn a new way of being reminded to attend and register for programs,view and reserve new titles,or simply receive important info on subjects they are interested in. I subscribed to the Adult Reference New Fiction Feed.

RSS Feeds

I went to Google Reader and subscribed to two health feeds, CNN-Health and Women's Health. I found an interesting, eye-opening feed/article on chronic coughing. http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/conditions/06/19/chronic.cough/index.html?eref=rss_health

I think this service is fabulous! Great to have when travelling. I downloaded a comedy show "Bill Engvall: Here's Your Sign", and the audiobook title "Lucia, Lucia". I listened and viewed both items and all went well.

Flickr

I explored Flickr and thought it was a very helpful sight when you need to find images of different subjects. Ofcourse a good site to share pics with everyone.
Like google images Flickr can allow you to search for images on different topics, which is where the tags come in.

YouTube- MJF

I chose to add the video of Michael J. Fox's visit to Bhutan, India. His documentary was focused on how this country measures happiness. Very interesting and eye opening.
His book "Always Looking Up: the adventures of an incurable optimist" is my next read...

LibraryThing

I created an account and added 3 titles. Falling, Very Valentine, and 700 Sundays.
For those not familiar with library of congress subject headings, the tagging may be
useful and appreciated. The positive thing about it is that the tagging is done by someone
who read the book and not someone just cataloging, so the descriptions are more detailed.
